Owners coming into the league after August 30, 2013: We will be flexible on deadlines wherever we can be for you. PM me or Cards or Cubs if you're concerned about deadlines and we'll see if we can work something out.
As we start the league, players will come from two sources.
1. Real-life MLB 25-man rosters as of June 9, 2013 (there is no significance to this day, other than that is the first day where I had time to put together a list of every player that had been on each team's 25man roster to that point). Any player that spent any time on your team's 25-man roster from the start of the season until June 9 can be added to your official initial roster (must be chosen by September 1, 2013). See transaction rules for how to determine the contract of players you choose to roster. Any player that you choose not to add to your roster will be a free agent. The commissioner has included a list of these players in your team folder. If a player was on multiple team's 25-man rosters, then the team that he was last on is the team that can roster him. Please see the Nationals starter roster and response for an idea of how to use the lists of players to construct your official initial roster link here
2. All prospects who were first signed by your team, except for players included on 25-man rosters above. This means you will own some players in other teams' real-life systems and other teams will own some of the players in your team's real-life system. Past draft results can be found at baseballamerica.com including which of your team's draft picks actually signed. Another good reference tool is baseballreference.com; for any given player it will tell you which team signed him first.
Once you have chosen your initial roster and checked out your minor system, there will be two more ways to put your team together.
3. The non-free agent player draft, which starts on September 7. This includes real-life 2013 draftees, international signings in 2013, and all the players from the six teams that are unowned (this is a 24-team league, leaving 6 teams without owners). This will be a six round draft for 2013, and a two round draft starting in 2014.
4. Free agency. Starting November 1, free agency begins. See transaction rules for the free agency details. This includes all players who were not added to rosters, and all players whose contracts expire after 2013.
